• Dear Parents and Athletes of the Baldwin Community:

     

    • We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Baldwin Athletic Training Program. Below is a brief description of the roles and responsibilities of our sports medicine program.

      Athletic Trainer: Baldwin Middle Senior High School employs one full-time athletic trainer. This individual is a healthcare provider licensed by the state of Florida and is certified by the Board of Certification. The role of our athletic trainer is to ensure the care and safety of our student athletes during their participation in sports. Athletic trainers specialize in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, and immediate care of athletic injuries that may occur during practices or games. Our athletic trainer is present for all high school home games and events. He works under the supervision of our team physician, Dr. Eric Shirley. 

      Medical Referrals: In the event your child may need referral to a physician for further evaluation or treatment, our athletic trainer or coaching staff will contact you directly. Parents are free to take their child to their primary care physician, or they may set an appointment to see our team physician. Our athletic trainer will contact Dr. Shirley beforehand to give a quick overview of your child's injury. If your child is seen by a physician, whether our team physician or your primary care physician, he/she must bring a doctor's note for our athletic trainer that states the diagnosis of the injury, time out for injury recovery (if any), restricted activities (if any), and a time frame of return to participation. In order for your child to return to full activity, our athletic trainer must receive a doctor's note that clears him/her to return to play.  

      Required Paperwork: The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) requires that all athletes have a valid pre-participation physical to practice and play every year. The Baldwin Athletics Program participates in the free annual physical screening located at Wolfson's Children's Hospital downtown during the month of July. If your child does not attend this physical screening, they must see an outside physician for a physical in order to participate in any sport for that academic year.
