  • Attendance Policy

Daily and prompt attendance is a must for academic achievement.  State and school board policies state that a student’s illness, accident, death in the family, and extremely inclement weather conditions are the only reasons for excused absences. When returning to school after an absence, THE STUDENT IS TO PRESENT A WRITTEN, DATED EXCUSE FROM THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN EXPLAINING THEIR ABSENCE.  If a note is not received, the absence is considered unexcused. Excessive absences (excused or unexcused) may be referred to the district’s attendance counselors and further may be referred to the State Attorney’s Office.

Per School Board policy, students will not be recognized for Perfect Attendance if they are tardy three or more times during any grading period.

    Celebrations/Parties

There are celebrations held in each grade throughout the year. Parents will receive information from teachers.  Students who do not wish to participate will be given an activity and supervised in a different location from the party.  Birthday celebrations may be held with permission from the classroom teacher ONLY during the student’s lunch period. All items must be store-bought.  If parents/guardians wish to attend must be approved via 小丑撸 Volunteer Management System. FLOWERS, BALLOONS, COOKIE BOUQUETS, CANDY, ETC., ARE NOT ALLOWED AND WILL NOT BE HELD IN THE FRONT OFFICE.  STORE-BOUGHT CUPCAKES CAN ONLY BE DELIVERED AT YOUR STUDENT’S DESIGNATED LUNCHTIMES. NO EXCEPTIONS.

    Cell Phones

If a student possesses a cellular telephone, it must be turned off and kept out of sight; inside a book bag, purse, or similar container. It may not be used or allowed to emit any light, ring tone, or other noise at any time during the school day. Violations of this policy will result in confiscation, and the device will only be released to the parent/guardian. School Board employees or agents will not be held liable for wireless communication devices that are lost, stolen, or confiscated.

    Code of Appearance

Hogan-Spring Glen is a uniform school. Students are dressed in uniform daily. Any student out of uniform school will contact a parent.  In addition, 小丑撸 Student Code of Conduct guidelines has been developed to aid parents and students in selecting proper attire.

    • Tank tops, midriff shirts, low-rider pants, spaghetti-strap shirts, short skirts and shorts, leggings, backless shoes, and hats/head coverings are not allowed.

    Discipline/Code of Conduct

Students are expected to behave in a conducive to supporting an optimum learning environment for all students. At all times, each student is expected to show respect for teachers, school personnel, and classmates. Students who do not properly conduct themselves at school will be disciplined per the Duval County Code of Student Conduct. A copy of the county code and our school-wide Discipline Plan are available on the 小丑撸 website and are discussed with every student at the beginning of the school year. Parents and students are expected to sign an acknowledgment form verifying receipt of the Code of Student Conduct.

    Field Trips

Before a student is permitted to go on a field trip, they must have a field trip permission form SIGNED by their parent or guardian.  PERMISSION CANNOT BE GRANTED OVER THE PHONE.  Students that choose to make poor choices may be required to have a “hand-holder/chaperone /parent or guardian only” to participate in field trips.  All Chaperones must be cleared through 小丑撸 two weeks before the field trip.  Students who are suspended cannot attend field trips.

    Health and Safety

    • Accidents – Students must report all injuries to a teacher or administrator immediately. An accident report will be completed.
    • Illness -. A child who suddenly develops a headache, chill, fever, vomiting, or other signs of illness should be kept at home for a minimum of 24 hours.

An office staff member will make the student as comfortable as possible. If deemed appropriate, a parent will be called. The school clinic is not permitted, nor does it have adequate facilities or staff, to care for a sick child for a prolonged period.  The school‘s clinic is limited in the amount of first-aid treatment given and is prohibited from giving any internal medicine (including aspirin). We must have an emergency phone number for every student.

    Medication at school

If any child is to take prescribed or “over-the-counter” medication, the parent must do the following:

    • Have a copy of directions for administering the medicine from a licensed doctor or dentist attached to the original container.
    • Sign a medication liability release form and file it in the office or with the school’s nurse.

    Volunteers/Visitors

All volunteers and visitors are required to sign in and out at the front office. Visitors must wear a visitor’s sticker for proof of checking in the front office to ensure the safety of all our students. Volunteer applications must be completed online at the 小丑撸 website ( ).
